Assessment & Moderation

We’re committed to delivering high-quality training and ensuring every learner is assessed fairly and consistently against national standards.

Assessment is the process of collecting and recording evidence that demonstrates a learner’s competence against the unit standards they’re working towards. This evidence can come from day-to-day workplace tasks, organisational records, photos, verified supervisor or manager sign-off, written responses, or verbal discussions.

At EarnLearn, we partner with industry to design learning and assessment materials grounded in a robust evidence-based model.

Our Quality Assurance team oversees assessment quality and provides ongoing support to assessors across all industries we work with, ensuring a consistent, compliant, and reliable assessment experience.

Assessment

We’re committed to ensuring every learner receives high-quality training and is assessed fairly and consistently against national standards.

Assessment is the process of collecting and recording evidence that demonstrates a learner’s competence against the unit standards they’re aiming to achieve. Evidence may come from day-to-day workplace tasks, organisational records, photos, supervisor or manager verification, written responses, or verbal discussions.

EarnLearn works closely with industry to develop learning and assessment materials built on a robust, evidence-based model.

Training Courses

We offer a tailored 4098 assessor course designed specifically for trades-based workplaces. It supports employers who want to carry out workplace assessment for apprentices enrolled in Plumbing, Gasfitting, and/or Drainlaying with EarnLearn.

The course builds practical assessor capability, covering how to gather and judge workplace evidence, apply unit standards, and make fair, consistent assessment decisions in real trade environments.

This programme is only available to those assessing EarnLearn apprentices, as all assessment activities must be completed with a real trainee in the workplace.

Workplace Verifiers

Workplace verifiers play a crucial role in supporting fair and credible assessment. A verifier confirms that a learner can consistently perform specific tasks to the required industry or organisational standard.

Verification evidence may include observing everyday work activities, reviewing workplace documentation, signing off performance tasks, or providing written or verbal confirmation of competence. This ensures assessors have reliable, real-world evidence of a learner’s abilities.

EarnLearn supports verifiers with clear guidance and tools so they can confidently contribute to the assessment process and uphold the integrity of workplace-based training.

Moderation

We moderate assessments to ensure fairness, consistency, and alignment with national standards across all programmes and industries we support.

Moderation involves reviewing assessor decisions, checking evidence requirements, and evaluating assessment materials to confirm they are valid, consistent, and applied correctly. This process safeguards the credibility of assessment outcomes and strengthens quality assurance.

EarnLearn’s moderation practices help assessors continuously improve, ensuring the training and assessment experience remains transparent, reliable, and trusted by learners and employers.
