Conflict Management
Managing conflict is a key skill for those in the security industry. There are mandatory training requirements to ensure all individuals are armed with the knowledge and skills to manage conflict situations.
The training applies to both Licence and Certificate of Approval holders. Crowd controllers, crowd controller employees, property guards, property guard employees, personal guards and personal guard employees.
There are three NZQA unit standards that need to be achieved:
- 27364 – Demonstrate knowledge of the security industry in the pre-employment context
- 27360 – Describe conflict management in a security context
- 27361 – Manage conflict situations in a security context

Conflict Management Instructors – Train the Trainer and Refresher Courses
From 1 November 2021, the arranging and managing of the Train the Trainer and Refresher courses transferred from Te Pūkenga to NZSA.
NZSA also maintains the list of approved conflict management trainers.
